Bhubaneswar: With preparations underway for Durga Puja, the Housing & Urban Development Department reviewed the preparedness of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) at a virtual meeting chaired by e Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra. The meeting focused on ensuring clean, safe and well-maintained urban spaces for healthy and joyful celebrations.
Sanitation was identified as a top priority, with ULBs required to maintain cleanliness and ensure proper sanitation arrangements throughout the festive period. The meeting also stressed the importance of safe and efficient drainage systems. In view of forecast rain associated with a low-pressure system, ULBs were urged to remain alert and take preventive measures to minimise waterlogging and ensure the smooth flow of rainwater.
The Minister emphasised fire safety at Puja pandals and public places, highlighting the need for adequate measures to protect devotees and the general public. Other key areas included the availability of safe drinking water, repair of potholes and damaged roads, functioning streetlights and adequate illumination.
Coordination among concerned departments and agencies was also emphasised to ensure timely response and uninterrupted delivery of essential civic services. Control rooms will be established across districts for real-time monitoring, coordination and prompt response to emerging situations during the festive period.
Emphasising public safety and cleanliness, the Hon’ble Minister said that all ULBs must remain vigilant and ensure that necessary arrangements are in place well ahead of the festivities.
“Public safety and cleanliness must remain our highest priorities. Our objective is to ensure that every citizen can celebrate Durga Puja in a safe, clean and healthy environment. All Urban Local Bodies must remain prepared, responsive and coordinated to make the festivities joyful and hassle-free for everyone,” said the Minister. Usha Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, and Arindam Dakua, Director of Municipal Administration (DMA), were present at the meeting.
