
Bhubaneswar: The EIC(Electricity) office, under Energy Dept and CLASP, a global not-for-profit organization, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding to work on Accelerating Energy Efficiency in Odisha during a workshop “Accelerating Energy Efficiency in Odisha: Building a robust ecosystem for Efficient Cooling Appliances” organized on 24th July, 2025 at Bhubaneswar.
The workshop brought together more than 70 participants including senior officials from Department of Energy, Works Dept, Government of Odisha, , Public Sector Institutions, Odisha State Pollution Control Board, recyclers, and civil society to discuss the complete ecosystem of the adoption of energy-efficient cooling appliances in the state.
Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy conveyed the state’s priority in strengthening the energy efficiency ecosystem and expected CLASP’s complete support in accelerating the adoption efficient appliances. Dr. Debi Dutta Tripathy, Financial Advisor, Dept of Energy inaugurated the event in presence of Mr. Pyari Mohan Mishra, Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity); Dr Nihar Ranjan Sahoo, Chief Environmental Engineer, Odisha State Pollution Control Board; Mr. Sudhir Kumar Mahapatra, Chief Engineer, Energy Conservation and Ms. Neha Dhingra, Director- CLASP.
Dr. Tripathy highlighted that the Government of Odisha’s “Mukhya Mantri Shakti Sanrakshan Abhiyaan” with total outlay of INR 100 crore is targeting replacement, in its first phase, of more than 1 lakh old inefficient Ceiling fans and approximately 4000 ACs with highest energy efficient products in around 3500 govt buildings. He added that collaboration with CLASP will benefit the state of Odisha in accelerating the adoption of EE appliances.
Mr Mishra stressed on improving the appliance energy efficiency adopting the full- ecosystem approach in the state and welcomed the MoU with CLASP to support the state in this endeavour.
Ms Dhingra, in her welcome address, applauded the progressive steps being undertaken by the state of Odisha towards promoting energy efficiency in various sectors. Further, she stressed the immense energy saving potential of the state that could be realized through the adoption of efficient appliances. She assured CLASP’s full support to the state in accelerating the adoption of energy efficiency actions including implementation of large scale appliance replacement programmes.
