
Bhubaneswar: A state-level workshop was organized by the State Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department on the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2025 at State Convention Center, Lok Seva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar.
Participating as the chief guest, Nityananda Gond, Hon’ble Minister said that drug abuse has emerged as a problem in the world and is causing immense harm to family and social life. At the individual level, people are addicted to drugs, creating unrest in family life and facing financial ruin. Due to illegal drug trade and organized crime, widespread problems are also being created in the society. He stressed on the need to strengthen mutual cooperation and strengthen scientific evidence-based approaches to prevent drug abuse and prioritize rehabilitation and rehabilitation of drug addicts towards achieving the goal of a drug-free society.
Students from various educational institutions such as Utkal University, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Ravenshaw University, SCB Medical College, Ramadevi University, KIT University participated in the workshop. Representatives from Narcotics Control Bureau, Commissionerate Police, Excise Department, Home Department, Health Department, AIIMS and NMBA State Committee also participated in it and expressed their commitment to intensify our efforts to combat this problem through collective efforts and science-based solutions. Invited eminent guest speakers deliberated their views on drug abuse.
In this workshop, Director, SSEPD Niyati Patnaik delivered the welcome speech while FA-cum-Special Secretary Jayashree Tripathy, Additional Secretary Sonia Behera, Rajni Jani, Bhaskar Raita and other senior officers participated and delivered their thoughtful speeches. Finally, Additional Secretary Deepak Routrai delivered the vote of thanks.
