Bhubaneswar : The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DAFE), Government of Odisha, launched the Odisha Agriculture Drought Mitigation Programme (OADMP) under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) in today’s inception workshop. The programme aims to build climate resilience, enhance productivity, and promote crop diversification in drought-prone districts. The MoU was signed on the occasion of Krushi Odisha – 2026
Implemented in Komna (Nuapada), Kosagumuda (Nabarangpur), and Raruan (Mayurbhanj) blocks, OADMP targets smallholder, marginal, tribal, women, and youth farmers. With technical support from ICRISAT, ICAR-CRIDA, and IRRI, the ₹141.50 crore initiative will benefit around 24,000 households, strengthening their livelihoods and reducing migration.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasized proactive drought management, stating, Building resilience is essential for protecting livelihoods and strengthening the rural economy. Besides, Dy CM called upon all the stakeholders to work in convergence. The convergence should be in the effective implementation on the ground.
Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary, DA&FE, highlighted the science-led planning, convergence, and community ownership in the Odisha Agriculture Drought Mitigation Program. He also said that, this is the first-ever programme on Drought Mitigation funded by NDMA.
The programme focuses on science-led planning, convergence, and community ownership. Dr. Pravat Kumar Roul, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Shubhranshu Mishra, Additional Secretary, representatives from NDMA, OSDMA, IMD, scientists from KVK, senior officials were presented. Vote of thanks was delivered by Sangram Keshari Pattanayak, Joint Director, DA&FE.
