Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day 2025, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, graced a grand function held at Lokseva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. The event underscored the critical importance of energy conservation and celebrated outstanding contributions to energy efficiency.
The celebration started in the morning with the Deputy Chief Minister flagging off Energy Conservation awareness rally joined by Principal secretary Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, EIC(Electy.)- Cum-PCEI Odisha Manoj Kumar Tripathy. The rally of students and teachers along with officials of Energy dept. started from Gate No.3 of Kalinga stadium to Lok seva Bhawan.
Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Singh Deo in his address, emphasized the need to adopt energy conservation not merely as a habit, but as a national duty. He stressed importance towards making earthing in every house and wide implementation of smart meters which has the potential to reduce energy losses. Deputy Chief Minister also said, The Government of Odisha reaffirmed its commitment to promoting energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, aligning with national missions on climate resilience and sustainable development.

Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy, in his address mentioned that while adding energy generation simultaneously we should focus on energy conservation that is the cheapest, cleanest source. At policy level, he reiterated that pump storage policy is already in place and recently floating solar guidelines have been issued which could accelerate Odisha’s renewable energy capacity in solar wind, hydro, etc.
Dr. K. Murugesan, Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department in his address urged the teachers to indulge and promote innovative thinking and ideas among the students regarding energy conservation. A. K. Tripathy, Former Director General, CPRI, in his address emphasized on addition of renewable energy capacity along with grid stabilization. Monoj Kumar Tripathy, EIC-cum- PCEI(O) in his address focused on energy conservation efforts undertaken by the SDA(O).
During the ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister honoured the winners of the Odisha State Energy Conservation Awards (OSECA) to Winners in various categories such as CPP/IPP, Steel & Power, MSMEs. Educational Institutes etc.
The State-Level Quiz Competition was organized where more than 2.5 lakhs students participated at block level and district level across Odisha. In the competition, students from classes of 8th, 9th and 10th participated and cash award of Rs. 8000, Rs. 5000, and Rs. 3000 were given to top 3 students including mementoes and certificates to other students. Around 500 participants attended the State-Level Function at Lok Seva Bhawan who were also given prizes and awards. In the end Ashok kumar Das, Chief Engineer gave the vote thanks to all the dignitaries and participants. On this day, each of the dignitaries emphasized that energy saved is energy generated.
