
Bhbubaneswar: A shocking incident of an attempted abduction of a minor girl by two youths from West Bengal has stirred panic in the capital city of Bhubaneswar. The accused duo first sedated the girl and tried to kidnap her when she was unconscious, reports said. While police is yet to confirm if the victim had been raped by the two accused, locals suspect that the two had sedated her and were planning to rape her when they were caught. How the girl came in contact with the accused duo was not immediately known.
Fortunately, locals happened to see the girl and rescued her on time before nabbing the accused duo. They were later handed over to the police. The shocking incident was reported late on Sunday night in the Dumduma area. According to police sources, the two accused have been identified as Gopal Majumdar and Mrityunjay Ghosh from Medinipur, West Bengal. Sources said they were working as labourers in a local hotel. The accused duo was heavily intoxicated during the kidnap attempt, sources said.
Suspecting suspicious activity, locals confronted the two and found the girl in a semi-conscious state. They immediately rescued her and detained the accused before handing them over to the Khandagiri police. The police later sent the minor to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical treatment. Police officials confirmed that a detailed medical examination will be conducted, including a forensic test, after the girl recovers. The results are expected to shed more light on the incident.
Both accused remain in police custody as investigations are underway. The police are also probing the background of the two men and their possible involvement in similar crimes. The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of minor girls in urban areas of Bhubaneswar and the growing influence of alcohol consumption among youth.
