Patnagarh: Patnagarh PS Case No.35/2018 regarding Parcel Bomb Explosion on 23/02/2018 in the house of Rabindra Kumar Sahoo at Brahmapura, Patnagarh was taken over by Crime Branch on 23/03/2018 vide CB PS Case No.7/2018. In the said cincident Soumya Sekhar Sahoo and her Grandmother Jemamani Sahoo died of the explosion and Rimarani (wife of deceased Soumya Srkhar Sahoo) was seriously injured. A team of CB Officers conducted investigation headed by Sri Anil Kumar Dash, the then Addl.SP CB. Sri Arun Bothra, IG CID CB was monitoring the investigation. After collection of several circumstantial evidence including scientific evidence, electronic evidence , leading to discovery evidence and TI Parade evidence, Charge Sheet was submitted against accused Punjilal Meher U/s 302/307/201 IPC r/w Sec. 3 & 4 of Explosive Substances Act. In order to prove the Case, prosecution examined 62 witnesses, 100 numbers of documentary evidence and 51 numbers of material objects in the Court. The accused examined three defense witnesses including himself and 8 numbers of documentary evidence.
After appreciating the evidence and hearing both the parties, learned Sessions Judge, Patnagarh passed the judgment of “CONVICTION” on 28/05/2025 against the accused Punjilal Meher in ST No.24/2018 holding him guilty under all the charges as mention above. Learned Sessions Judge, Patnagarh awared “LIFE IMPRISONMENT” against the accused for commission of offence U/s 302 IPC and imposed fine of ₹50,000/-, awarded RI for ten years U/s 307 IPC and imposed fine of ₹ 20000/-, awarded RI of seven years u/s 201 IPC and imposed fine of ₹10000/-, awarded life imprisonment u/s 3 of Explosive Substances Act and imposed fine of ₹ 50000/- and awarded RI u/s 4 of Explosive Substances Act and imposed fine of ₹ 10000/- along with default causes. Sri Sri C R Kanungo, Spl PP was conducting Prosecution Case and Adv Pramod Kumar Mishra was the defense lawyer. Sri Bijaya Kumar Mallick, Addl.SP , CB was engaged as HIO for Prosecution.
