Berhampur: Ganjam district, one of the largest agrarian districts in the state, continues to record significant progress in paddy procurement during the current season. Acting in accordance with the directives of the State Government, the district administration, along with the sub-divisional and block-level administrations, has ensured smooth management of mandis, simplified registration processes, and timely transfer of procurement dues directly to farmers’ bank accounts.
Against a total procurement target of 54,46,201 quintals, the district has procured 47,98,588 quintals of paddy so far, achieving approximately 88 percent of the target. In a major financial boost to the rural economy, more than Rs 1,055 crore has already been credited directly to the bank accounts of 1,21,816 farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Compared to previous years, the procurement process has advanced at a faster pace this season, bringing visible satisfaction among the farming community. The substantial inflow of funds has strengthened the rural economy and provided financial stability to thousands of farmers across the district.
This achievement has been made possible through systematic planning, continuous monitoring, prompt action on issues highlighted in the media, and coordinated efforts among various departments. Under the direction of Collector Shri V. Keerthi Vasan, departmental officers have undertaken regular field visits to mandis and addressed procurement-related grievances on priority. Despite being a geographically large district, consistent review meetings, close supervision of mandis, and coordination with PACS and allied agencies have ensured steady progress. The Collector has expressed confidence that the remaining paddy will be procured shortly and reiterated that the administration is committed to ensuring that every eligible farmer benefits from the procurement process.
