
Bhubaneswar : A Flood preparedness meeting for 2025 was held today under the Chairpersonship of Smt. AnuGarg,IAS,Development Commissioner-cum-ACS to Govt, in the Department of Water Resources,Odisha.
On review it reveals that Flood management arrangements across all divisions, circles, and offices of the concerned Chief Engineers of Water Resources Department will be operational 24×7 hrs from 1st June, 2025 to 31st October, 2025. The control rooms will function in the Chief Engineer’s Office, E.I.C Office and the State Hydrological Data Centre (SHDC), 8th Floor, Rajiv Bhawan in the Department of Water Resources.
The District Administration and Water Resources Department officials have conducted joint inspections of all river embankments for verifying their health status and reported to be in good condition. During the 2024 flood season, no breaches was reported. Permanent rehabilitation measures at previously affected/vulnerable locations have been completed.All Obstructions in the river and drainage channels including coffer dams will be removed by 15th June.Mock drills for the gates in all major and medium Projects/ Barrages/ Weirs have been conducted. The gates have been fully inspected to ensure effective flood management.
All necessary flood fighting materials and equipment needed for emergency flood response including sand, filled gunny bags, ballha (brushwood), bamboo etc have been mobilised. Similarly generators, JCBs, excavators, trucks/tippers, tractors, cutters, and water tankers have been arranged to be available at short notice.Rainfall and flood forecasts will be disseminated daily for public awareness in co-ordination with Central Water Commission (CWC), the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).Mobile numbers of two contact officers of each division dealing with flood control and drainage will be shared to all concerned.Standard Operating Procedures will be observed for effective flood management.
EIC-Department of Water Resources, other senior officers of DoWR and Engineers working at different level were participated in the meeting in both physical and virtual mode.
