Bhubaneswar: The state of Odisha has a target of cultivating potatoes in 50,000 acres of land in the Rabi season. For this, authentic seed potatoes are being brought from Punjab and sold to farmers at a price of 20 rupees per kg and after planting the potato seeds in the field, there is a plan to return 10 rupees per kg.
So far, about 1.0 lakh quintals of high-quality seed potatoes have been distributed in various blocks of 30 districts. We hope that all the seed potatoes will be provided by the end of November, said Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Department, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee. After receiving the potato seeds, the farmers are requested to treat them and plant them in the field using improved methods. It is worth noting that every single detail related to the distribution of seed potatoes is being personally supervised by the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.
In this meeting, Principal Secretary Dr. Padhee emphasized the importance of quality and timely distribution of seed potatoes. It is believed that the success of potato cultivation is assured due to the favorable climate in the state.
A meeting was held at Krushi Bhawan under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary regarding the distribution of seed potatoes. Director Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman, Managing Director, Odisha State Seed Corporation Niti Ranjan Sen, officers from agriculture and horticulture department were present during the meeting.
