Bhubaneswar: A five-day Capacity Building workshop for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in English, appointed in non-govt. aided higher secondary schools under the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, commenced today at the SIRD&PR. A total of 50 PGT (English) teachers are participating in the training programme, which is being organized in collaboration with Azim Premji University.
The inaugural session was graced by Additional Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, Subhashree Nanda, Director of Higher Secondary Education, Niyati Patnaik, Joint Director Sasmita Mali, Deputy Directors C.H. Vijayalakshmi and Jitendra Nayak. Faculty members from Azim Premji University, Partha Sarathi Mishra and Jenny Alex, were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary Smt. Nanda highlighted that the workshop will help teachers enhance their communication skills and act as ambassadors of effective teaching practices in their colleges and communities. She stressed that under the framework of the new National Education Policy (NEP), teachers must first be empowered to ensure Odisha’s education system becomes a model at the global level. She further advised participants to focus on the practical aspects of education.
Director Niyati Patnaik, in her welcome address, informed that all PGT teachers across the state would be provided training in a phased manner. She also expressed gratitude to Azim Premji University for its collaboration. While Smt. Vijayalakshmi coordinated the programme, Jitendra Nayak gave vote of thanks, and Sasmita Mali supervised the workshop arrangements.
The workshop focuses on strengthening teaching and assessment practices. Participants will deliberate on challenges in teaching English, language learning goals, curriculum objectives, skill-based communication activities, and critical analysis in pedagogy. Special emphasis will be given to assessment practices aligned with the National Curriculum Framework 2023, including question paper analysis and competency-based evaluation methods.
