Bhubaneswar: Minister, Skill Development & Technical Education and Industries, Odisha, reviewed the progress and future roadmap of the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, in a meeting held on Wednes Day. WSC has emerged as a flagship skilling institution in the State, having trained more than 9,000 candidates since its inception. The Center has achieved an exceptional placement rate of over 99%, including 251 international placements, with leading employers such as Tata Group, Hitachi, Wipro, Emrill, and EFS.
The Center has also trained over 4,000 faculty members under its Training of Trainers programmes and established Centers of Excellence in cutting-edge domains such as Advanced Welding, Industrial Automation, and Smart Manufacturing.
The Minister appreciated WSC’s progress and outlined a forward-looking roadmap to scale its impact. Emphasizing the optimal utilization of infrastructure, he stressed the need to increase student intake, expand short-term industry-oriented programmes, and introduce niche skill areas such as underwater and pipe welding.
“World Skill Center has laid a strong foundation for advanced skilling in Odisha. We must now scale its reach by fully utilizing its infrastructure, strengthening industry partnerships, and aligning institutions across the State. Our focus is to prepare Odisha’s youth not only for domestic opportunities but also for global platforms like WorldSkills,” the Minister stated. The Minister also called for stronger collaboration among Government institutions, Private ITIs, and Polytechnics.
Among others present were Bhupendra Singh Poonia, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department; Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, CEO, WSC; Pinaki Pattnaik, COO, WSC; Dr Subhanga Kishore Das, Principal, WSC; and other senior officials.
