Bhubaneswar: Continuing its special enforcement drive against illegal liquor and narcotics, the Excise Department on the 29th day of operations seized contraband articles valued at ₹1.77 crore.
Officials detected 312 cases and arrested 58 persons during the statewide crackdown. The seizures included 19,219 BL of illicit distilled (ID) liquor, 688 BL of duty-paid liquor, and 244,770 BL of wash destroyed. In addition, nine litres of duplicate foreign liquor, 600 kg of mohua flower, and four kg of bhang were recovered. Four vehicles used in the illegal trade were also seized.
During the same period, four cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were booked, leading to the seizure of 110 kg of ganja and 12 litres of codeine-based cough syrup.
Officials said the department will continue its sustained drive to curb illegal liquor and narcotics in the State.
