
Bhubaneswar: 19th National Statistics Day was celebrated by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Planning & Convergence Department Government of Odisha in the State ConventionCenter of Lokseva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.
Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary in her address urged upon all to develop a statistical system which will effectively monitor the goals and targets set in the Vikashit Odisha-2036 and 2047. Citing the example of Subhadra scheme, she said that the Government of Odisha is emphasizing on the use of data and, in this process, the state has prepared a robust database that may be used in implementation of otherbeneficiary-oriented scheme.
Chief Secretary, Odisha Manoj Ahuja in his inaugural address set a grand vision for developing the state statistical system in to a State-of-the-Art system. This should work like a mirror to measure the socio-economic progress of the State and find out the areas of shortfall and way forward. He also stressed the need for institutional capacity building.
Director Economics & Statistics, Odisha, Dr. Bijay Bhusan Nanda acknowledgedthe support of Government for strengthening the state statistical system and highlighted the modernization process of DE&S in the last couple of years.
Ashish Kumar, Former Director General, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Government of India was the chief speaker on this occasion. He highlighted the role of National Statistical Office, Government of India in conducting sample surveys to provide data on regular intervals for the unorganized sector of the economy. These data are being used by different departments in their planning and policy formulation. Directorate of Economics & Statistics being a partner with the NSO has a significant role to play to gather reliable data across sectors.
During celebration of 19th National Statistics Day, Dynamic and interactive website of the Directorate of Economics & Statistics was inaugurated. Moreover, the SDG Dashboard of Odisha and Web portal for Data collection through CAPI survey solutions were unveiled. Besides, the 7th Minor Irrigation Census, 1st Census of Major & Medium Irrigation Projects, 2nd Census of Water Bodies and 1st Census of Springs in the state were lunched.
On this occasion, the annual publication of DE&S – Samikhya and other statistical Publications namely Women & Men in Odisha-2024, District Statistical Hand books-2024, Report on Annual Survey of Industries, Report on Index of Industrial Production etc. were released.
The event was attended by Senior Officers / Statistical personnel from various departments of the state including Planning & Convergence Department, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, officials from 30 District Planning & Monitoring Units, Faculty/ students from academic institutions.
Besides, on this occasion, Directorate of Economics & Statistics has organized a three-day workshop on estimation of District Domestic Product- Approach, Methodology and Issues & Challenges. Delegates from Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka DE&S are participating in this workshop and shared their experience in the journey of estimating District Domestic Product. Sri Ashish Kumar, Former Director General was also spearheading the discussion sharing his expertise in the field.
